Cagsawa Church was founded 1587 by Saint Pedro Bautista.

In 01 February 1814, Mayon Volcano erupted burying the town of Cagsawa in rocks and sands.

Throughout the rest of 19th century, the structures of the abandoned town slowly succumbed to the outgrowth of vegetation until the 1930's when it was cleared and developed into local tourist spot.

In the succeeding years the weakened church facade was toppled leaving the bell tower to stand freely by 1960's.

The bell tower with the Mayon Volcano on the backdrop has since become an iconic image of the Bicol Region.

The ruined town is now a  major tourist destination in the Philippines.

Chili Ice Cream is a must try in Legaspi. Also Bicol Express and Laing.
