LANGUN-GOBINGOB CAVE

Langun-Gobingob Cave is the largest cave system in the Philippines.

Reputed to be the second largest in Asia.

The world's third largest karst formation.

The area is composed of at least 12 interconnected caves.

Locals believe that the caves are home to ancient primordial spirits and the spirits of Waray ancestors, making the caves one of the most sacred zones in Samar.

Gobingob is the oldest and largest part of the cave. Its chamber is huge, 340 x 140 metres at its widest points, and leads to an upper level which takes 2-4 hours to explore.

The "Football Field" is home to a blind fish unique to Samar's caves.

The main entrance of Langun to Tita Chamber is seasonally active. Non-swimmers should use a life vest for deep pools.

The Langun main chamber has a muddy floor which becomes mountains of guano (birds and bats droppings;feces) near the impressive Langun entrance, so try to avoid getting stuck!

Be prepared to get wet, dirty and stinky...

...and be friendly to meet its inhabitants that dwells in the dark.
