In a folklore story as told by our tour guide, Mount Madja'as is the mother of Malalison Island.

Malalison was derived from the visayan word, "Lalis" which means "to argue."

Malalison is a very hard headed daughter who always argues with her mother, Mount Madja'as - the highest mountain in Panay Island.

Mount Madja'as at the background
Malalison is the wife of Mount Kanlaon, an active volcano highest in the visayas and she always starts fights with him.

Batbatan Island in the horizon
One day, Malalison met Batbatan. She fell in love and had an affair with him. Malalison ran away from her husband Kanlaon and eloped with Batbatan.

When Kanlaon found out, he raged with anger and erupted. Lava fell all over the land.

Nablag Islet

Nablag Islet is Malalison Island and Batbatab Island's baby.
Disclaimer: Not part of the folklore but it is fun to continue the story and inject versions of my own. Hehehe :-)

Nablag Islet at Luyo Beach

Along the trail, it is so unusual to see a hill full of pitcher plants, ferns and pine trees. These plants usually grow in forests or in cold moist places.

Pitcher plants feed on insects. They come in varying colors, reds and greens.
