Lakawon Island

Lakawon Island is the mini boracay of Negros with its clear waters, sand bars and pristine fine white sand beaches surrounding the whole island. Lakawon  in Cebuano,  was derived  from the  word "lakaw"  which means  "walk" or "to walk." Literally,  you can actually  go around  the island  just by walking. I was able  to walk  around  it for 3 hours  including sightseeing,  swimming, picture taking and resting. The island became famous to travelers for its floating bar called, Tawhai. Tawhai Floating Bar According to a true bloom Ilonggo, Ms. Nenette Gumabon Castillon ,  the word TAWHAI means "calm and to relax."   Tawhai floating bar really suits its name and served its purpose for being a place where you can lounge around to relax while floating in the calm waters of Lakawon. How to get there: From Bacolod North Bound Ceres Bus Terminal, take a bus going to Cadiz. Estimate

APO ISLAND is one of the best and most successful examples of a community based sanctuary. It is so famous that the Shedd Aquarium of Chicago patterned its main exhibit after the island. Apo Island is very famous for its sea turtles. Sea turtles are abundant in Apo Island because it is the feeding ground of female sea turtles. They feed on algaes, sponges and sea grasses. The lack of poachers in the protected marine sanctuary and plenty of food keeps the sea turtles coming back. Female sea turtles have shorter tail than the long lizard like tail of the male sea turtles. There are two kinds of sea turtles that visits Apo Island. The Green Sea Turtles and the Hawkbill Sea Turtles. Green sea turtles although commonly brown in color, got its name after the green fats found beneath thier shell which turns the soup green. Although its is illegal to poach and eat sea turtles in the Philippines, they are called "Soup Turtl
