NOGAS ISLAND

Nogas Island is a government naval reservation in Antique Province. It can be accessed by sailboat or motorboat within 20mins from the shorelines of Anini-y town proper. The island has no community, therefore, no electricity and water supply.   Calachuchi tunnel leading to Nogas Island Lighthouse. Behind the Lighthouse into the woods, you will find a Century Old Balete tree.   I always find Balete trees beautiful with all its roots, vines and branches gnarling at each other giving it its mystical look. They seem to be portals to another dimensions making it a perfect setting for many horror stories. The island has thick and vast mangroves. These mangroves largely surrounds the whole island. The beach is white but the sand is not as fine. Mostly made of broken corals. The other part of the beach are made of sharp rocks. HOW I GOT THERE: From Iloilo Airport, take a van to SM City. In SM City, take a jeepney to Molo Cere...

Lakawon Island

Lakawon Island is the mini boracay of Negros with its clear waters, sand bars and pristine fine white sand beaches surrounding the whole island. Lakawon  in Cebuano,  was derived  from the  word "lakaw"  which means  "walk" or "to walk." Literally,  you can actually  go around  the island  just by walking. I was able  to walk  around  it for 3 hours  including sightseeing,  swimming, picture taking and resting. The island became famous to travelers for its floating bar called, Tawhai. Tawhai Floating Bar According to a true bloom Ilonggo, Ms. Nenette Gumabon Castillon ,  the word TAWHAI means "calm and to relax."   Tawhai floating bar really suits its name and served its purpose for being a place where you can lounge around to relax while floating in the calm waters of Lakawon. How to get there: From Bacolod North Bound Ceres Bus Ter...
APO ISLAND is one of the best and most successful examples of a community based sanctuary. It is so famous that the Shedd Aquarium of Chicago patterned its main exhibit after the island. Apo Island is very famous for its sea turtles. Sea turtles are abundant in Apo Island because it is the feeding ground of female sea turtles. They feed on algaes, sponges and sea grasses. The lack of poachers in the protected marine sanctuary and plenty of food keeps the sea turtles coming back. Female sea turtles have shorter tail than the long lizard like tail of the male sea turtles. There are two kinds of sea turtles that visits Apo Island. The Green Sea Turtles and the Hawkbill Sea Turtles. Green sea turtles although commonly brown in color, got its name after the green fats found beneath thier shell which turns the soup green. Although its is illegal to poach and eat sea turtles in the Philippines, they are called "Soup T...

I once dreamed to be a Little Mermaid... and I have always believed that dreams do come true. To make that dream a reality, (even though im not so little anymore) I went to visit the Philippine Mermaid Swimming Academy that offers open water courses in Boracay Island. You can choose tails for male and for female in different colors. They also have shell and flower bikinis you can use to pair with your tail. A short briefing will be done on how to put on the tail. It is actually made up of a mono fin and a colorful skin tight cloth. You will be taught the do's and don'ts in using your fishtail. Renting a fishtail will cost you 1000php. That includes having your picture taken at the white sand beaches of Boracay. You can also add your own accessories to beautify y...
