NOGAS ISLAND

Nogas Island is a government naval reservation in Antique Province. It can be accessed by sailboat or motorboat within 20mins from the shorelines of Anini-y town proper. The island has no community, therefore, no electricity and water supply.   Calachuchi tunnel leading to Nogas Island Lighthouse. Behind the Lighthouse into the woods, you will find a Century Old Balete tree.   I always find Balete trees beautiful with all its roots, vines and branches gnarling at each other giving it its mystical look. They seem to be portals to another dimensions making it a perfect setting for many horror stories. The island has thick and vast mangroves. These mangroves largely surrounds the whole island. The beach is white but the sand is not as fine. Mostly made of broken corals. The other part of the beach are made of sharp rocks. HOW I GOT THERE: From Iloilo Airport, take a van to SM City. The Ruins

The Ruins - Taj Mahal of Negros - This Italianate, neo-Romanesque structure was built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson, a sugar baron, in loving memory of his deceased wife Maria Braga in 1900's. How to get there: From Bacolod North Bound Ceres Bus Terminal facing Lacson St., walk to your left to Circumferencial Road. Take a trike fronting Pepsi to The Ruins - 20php The Ruins Entrance - 100php Going back, trikes are available in The Ruins but at a higher rate - 50php.  (Try haggling, i got it for 35php) The Ruins + Napoleones = Bacolod City
    APO ISLAND is one of the best and most successful examples of a community based sanctuary. It is so famous that the Shedd Aquarium of Chicago patterned its main exhibit after the island. Apo Island is very famous for its sea turtles. Sea turtles are abundant in Apo Island because it is the feeding ground of female sea turtles. They feed on algaes, sponges and sea grasses. The lack of poachers in the protected marine sanctuary and plenty of food keeps the sea turtles coming back. Female sea turtles have shorter tail than the long lizard like tail of the male sea turtles. There are two kinds of sea turtles that visits Apo Island. The Green Sea Turtles and the Hawkbill Sea Turtles. Green sea turtles although commonly brown in color, got its name after the green fats found beneath thier shell which turns the soup green.
