Catanduanes

Puraran is a quiet little fishing village named after the sturdy trees, named "PURA" (Red lawn Trees).

People from neighboring villages refer to this place as "Kapuraan" meaning, surrounded by Pura Trees which was later on called Puraran.

Situated along the eastern coast of the Catanduanes, facing the Pacific Ocean, Puraran is gifted with natural scenic beauty with its long and white sandy beach, crystal clear water, islets to explore and barrelled waves perfect for surfing.

Puraran waves was discovered by an Australian surfer Peter Sutton while riding on his motorbike in search of a surf spot.

He came upon this village and discovered the waves with perfect barrel. Peter looking for a place to stay with his Japanese wife was welcomed by a couple, both teachers living in front of the school where they stayed for months.

Soon enough, words spread about the new discovered surfing paradise and surfers from all around the globe came pouring in.

Puraran was featured by Warren Bolster in the Surfer Magazine calling the place "MAJESTICS" with its majestic waves.

PLACES TO VISIT:

We booked a Package Tour for Php 500 to visit Binurong Point, Nahulugan Falls and Balacay Point. Package inclusive of motorbike and driver/tourguide.

Binurong Point

We were told that the best sunrise in the island can be viewed at Binurong Point.

We woke up at 4am and started our trek going up Binurong Point at 4:30am.

We arrived at the point before the sunrise. Unfortunately for us, it was too cloudy because it has raining in the island the whole time during our stay.

Going to Binurong Point will require you to pay Php 40/pax for registration fee.

Php 150 for the local tour guide.

Reaching the top was so amazing and breathtakingly beautiful.

Lush verdant grasses like carpets rolled over the hills.

Its Pastoral cliff can be compared to Batanes.

No wonder it is being called the Little Batanes of Catanduanes.

Locals call the place "Binurong" because this is where they "Buro" (preserve food by salting or soak in vinegar) the fishes they caught for the day.
