Mount Pinatubo

The amazing Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines is a volcano that errupted in 1991. The largest eruption in the modern era whose ash fell as far away as Singapore and volcanic particles in the atmosphere lowered the global temperature.

The huge volcanic eruption during that time seems not enough, that typhoon Yunya moves ashore with its rains and high winds whose after effect caused dilemma every rainy season causing lahar flash floods in Angeles, Pampanga.

How to get there:

Option 1. From Clark Airport, take the jeepney at the right side of the arrival area to take you to the Main Gate Terminal. At Main Gate Terminal walk a few meters to 2nd Street for Capas-Angeles Transport Terminal and tell the driver to drop you off at Capas Public Market...

Option 2. From Clark Airport, take the jeepney at the right side of the arrival area to take you to Dau Bus Terminal. At Dau Bus Terminal, take any northbound bus (ex. Baguio) and tell the bus driver to drop you off at Capas Public Market...

Option 3. Since we were already checked in a hotel at Mac Arthur Highway, and it was 4:30am, we took the only jeepney we saw and asked the driver for directions going to Capas. He dropped us at Dapdap (22php) and instructed us to take another jeepney going to Tarlac and to tell the driver to drop us at Capas Public Market (12php)...

....At Capas Public Market, hire a trike to Sta. Juliana for 300php (good for 3 pax). Ride is about an hour.

Contact Sonia (09186021943) of Tourism Office to arrange your 4x4 booking. Walk in guests would have to wait for available 4x4 because most of them are already booked by tour operators. Cut off time of registration for Mt. Pinatubo tour is at 7am.

We invited a couple to join our group to share the expenses. Below is the breakdown of our expenses shared by 5 pax.

The journey to Mount Pinatubo is an adventure itself. The tour starts in a dusty 4x4 jeep ride passing through a vast desert of volcanic ashes. A face mask against the dust is a must.

Hold on tight for this bumpy ride. Prepare to be marveled by the huge different rock formations and white mountains in front of you.

But do not be fooled, for these mountains are made up of Lahar and could easily erode without a warning.

Enjoy this thrilling ride for an hour before you arrive the drop-off point where your trek will start.

Hiking to the crate will take an hour which will require you to go through a lush verdant forest, pass through volcanic rocks and walk along rivers of different colors.

The trail, however, is easy depending on your pace and you will be greeted by big native Aetas smiles along the way.

The sight of the crate is breathtakingly beautiful. Its beauty is worth every ounce of sweat, worth all your energy and worth every penny.

The cool breeze of the turquoise lake with crate walls like Swiss alps of Europe made it a perfect picnic background while having lunch or just resting and bathing under the sun on its white sand.

It's waters rich in sulfur and is not for swimming. Tourists who swims will get their tour guide suspended.
